01 · Overview Designing the service around the patient journey, not the website structure.

Septal perforation is a specialist clinical subject. People can arrive at the service with very different levels of knowledge, previous treatment experiences and uncertainty about what should happen next.

The design challenge was therefore bigger than improving individual web pages. DigiFixIT approached SeptalPerforation.co.uk as an end-to-end service: from first understanding the condition, through diagnosis and treatment research, to evaluating the specialist, choosing a location and requesting a consultation.

The resulting redesign created a clearer digital pathway while retaining the depth needed for specialist healthcare information.

02 · The challenge

A complex clinical subject needed a simpler service experience.

Complex information

Clinical information about causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment needed to remain accurate while becoming easier to scan and understand.

Fragmented journeys

Separate pages can make sense editorially while still leaving users unsure where they are in the wider journey or what action to take next.

High need for trust

Specialist healthcare decisions depend on confidence in the clinician, the treatment pathway, the locations, the information and the route to consultation.

Multiple touchpoints

The service spans educational content, treatment information, reviews, consultant information, physical locations, contact and booking.

Mobile-first discovery

Users researching a condition may move quickly between search results, articles and service pages, so navigation and readability had to remain clear on smaller screens.

Privacy-aware interactions

Healthcare journeys require care around personal information and third-party content, including consent-aware handling of external services such as embedded maps.

Reorganised specialist content around user questions.

The content structure was aligned around Background, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, FAQs, Reviews, Locations and consultation pathways so that people can move from understanding to action more deliberately.

02 / UX DESIGN

Created a calmer and more consistent interaction system.

Reusable page patterns, clearer hierarchy, stronger typography, consistent calls to action and responsive behaviours help the service feel connected rather than assembled from unrelated WordPress pages.

03 / JOURNEY MAPPING

Connected discovery, diagnosis and treatment decisions.

The experience was designed around the progression from initial concern through education, assessment, treatment exploration, specialist trust and consultation.

Made clinical credibility easier to evaluate.

Consultant information, reviews, treatment explanations and location information were treated as service touchpoints that help users decide whether and how to proceed.

Designed for scanning, orientation and smaller screens.

Shorter content blocks, stronger headings, clear navigation states, responsive components and visible action routes reduce unnecessary cognitive load when navigating complex information.

Prepared the service for safer operational growth.

The redesign included consent-aware treatment of external map content and defined the next-stage requirement for a secure booking capability appropriate to sensitive healthcare information.

The project moved the experience from a collection of medical pages towards a joined-up specialist healthcare service.
