01 Overview

Billing environments become difficult to change when services, processes, systems and stakeholder responsibilities are understood separately.

The work focused on making the service easier to understand as a connected system: mapping processes, clarifying participation and creating a more structured view of how different parts of the billing service interacted.

Service-design artefacts provided a common language for discussing workflows, dependencies, stakeholders and service-management activity across a complex financial-services environment.

The challenge

Complexity was not contained within one system.

Transaction, billing, reporting and service activities had dependencies that needed to be viewed end to end rather than as isolated steps.

A complex service requires clarity over who participates, who owns decisions and how teams engage throughout the service lifecycle.

Service activity crossed system boundaries, making dependencies and information flows difficult to understand without visual mapping.

Teams needed a shared representation that connected operational activity with the wider service and its stakeholders.
